My favorite metaphor is “The Blacker The Berry, The Sweeter The Juice”. As a Black woman, I am constantly being watched, being stole from, and being shut to one’s eye. Being black is something I take pride in. Our culture is beautiful, our english is unique, our music is relatable and our fashion is distinctive. We are the berrie, our culture is the juice.
I am known for creating fashion styles based off of music. Besides people, music and fashion are the most diverse things to exist. Black people created nearly every major music genre in America, yet are still underrepresented in the music industry. Music is something that is important in our culture, therefore I knew it would be something to help me thrive.
My name on my platforms is Reinberrie. The name originates from a song by one of my favorite artists, Zayn ‘Rainberry”. And I chose this because I grabbed the concept of music mostly influencing my style. We use music to be creative and my creative outlet was developing a fashion style. When I create short-videos, I would choose the song that compliments my outfit or I would put a caption from a song that matches the best. Using music to influence my fashion introduced me to many music genres and bought me idealistic opportunities. After being introduced to new musical genres, fashion became a passion. I look up to people who look like me and love fashion. From rappers like Lil Baby to NBA players like Shai, seeing black representation in fashion media is important to me.
One of my favorite things about fashion is that everyone may follow trends, but people still find a way make it in their own style. Fashion is an area I specialize in and dedicate my life to because it’s not about the clothes; it’s about how we, the individual, styles it. This is why one of my aspirations is originality.
I am known to be someone’s aspiration rather than inspiration with the help of fashion. I want to help them become comfortable and familiar with themselves. I am proud of creating a safe space for people to be satisfied with not knowing themselves yet. I am proud to have people who look like me to want to branch out and try new styles that we aren't typically labeled in. I am proud to be apart of diversity presentation. Because no one is the same, I think it’s important to normalize illustrating growth in individuality.
